Suds and Water Sensory Play
Sometimes the best activities are the most simple to do. Another good tip for activity play is “If it has water, they will love it.” Kids love water play! Water play does not have to be messy or complicated. Sometimes I just give her one of the larger throw away storage bowl with water in it at the table on top of a towel. She will play with her toys in it for hours.
One of our favorite activities is the toy bath. She will gather her plastic toys and I will make her a bucket of soapy water. It’s a great summer activity to keep them happy and cool them down. Soap is optional and they can have just as much fun with plain water. You can also add food coloring to make the water colorful although this does stain some toys if you use too much… (Sorry, blue Barbie.)
The bubbles bust over time but when I first make the bucket we play a little game. They reach in and try to guess which toy they have in their hand by the way it feels. It’s a fun game that all the kids get involved in. We have a big solid plastic toy bucket we use for when they are all playing together.
Sometimes the just uses their imagination to play and pretend that their toys are at the pool or lost at sea. This is usually what the older kids do… that or dump their buckets on to each other’s heads. Which is lots of fun too till someone gets soap in their eyes.
Another fun activity for suds and water play is the car wash. Lou likes to wash her princess coup so it will be clean and shiny for her trip to the grocery store or to pick up her babies at the day care.
They all do really well getting the princess coup nice and clean but I just can’t seem to get them to do this to my van.
